Austin took up tennis when he was only seven years old as a way of connecting with his father, who had played in high school.

 

Ferny Avila
Tennis Staff

Ferny grew up in San Antonio and started playing tennis at the age of three. He attended Ronald Reagan High School and was ranked number one for most of his time. He also achieved a Top 50 Super Champ ranking in Texas and in the Nation through the USTA ranking system. He attends UTSA pursuing his degree in Marketing and Psychology. He is currently number 1 in the state in Men’s Doubles and Mix Doubles in the Open Division through the USTA.

 

Rick Byrd
Wheelchair Tennis Professional

Rick has played tennis recreationally since high school and studied tennis in college. During the summer of 1997, he lost the ability to walk due to a rare, painful and disabling metabolic bone disease. As part of a program of physical rehabilitation, Rick learned to play wheelchair tennis in 2002. Read more about Rick here
