A Message From the President/CEO Saul F. Levenshus
Welcome to the 2018 Winter/Spring JCC Program Guide!
Inside this edition you’ll find a full array of programs and services designed to educate, enrich, and entertain you. As you’ll see, programs are listed by constituent groups beginning with early childhood and continues through services for adults. Interspersed you will find a series of advertisements describing upcoming events, special projects, and new initiatives that may be of interest to you.
There’s something about this place®… and some of the highlights this semester include: our ever-popular Spurs Youth Basketball League (page 12), our 17th Annual Jewish Film Festival (page 17), Spring and Summer J-Camps (page 10), STARZ and Nova Children’s Theatre productions (page 9 and 11), our Author & Speaker Series (page 16), and of course, The Sheldon Vexler Theatre (page 15), now in its 19th season. The final two productions this season promise to be outstanding with a unique steampunk version of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet (Feb. 10-March 4), followed by a performance of the highly-acclaimed comedic drama, Steel Magnolias (May 12-June 10).
We are very excited to have just rolled out our new event ticketing system that now provides you with online ticket purchasing for Vex performances, as well as most of our Arts & Entertainment events. You can even receive tickets on your mobile phone!
If you’re looking to improve or maintain your fitness levels, you’ll want to check out the variety of sports and fitness options listed throughout this guide. From the full complement of cardio and strength equipment, to the more than 50 hours of free group exercise classes offered each week (page 20), you’re bound to find something to your liking; or maybe you would like to try a series of small group personal training sessions (page 19). If tennis is your sport, I would strongly encourage you to check out the variety of tennis programs (page 13 for youth and page 22 for adults). Throughout the cooler weather months, our Tennis Clubhouse provides both the convenience of a place to warm up after an energizing tennis class or league match, and is also a place to meet and greet friends to make your tennis experience more complete.
And remember that our pool is heated and provides a series of year-round programs and services for both children and adults. Please note that effective December 9, the pool will be closed for resurfacing and improvements with an anticipated re-opening on January 2. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause. For those of you who are regular lap swimmers, we have made arrangements with a variety of alternative facilities to accommodate you during this time. Please visit this page for a complete list of options.
Our website provides information to make it simple for you to navigate and, as always, accepts program registration to make it even easier to sign up for a class or program. And if you haven’t already accessed our NEW Mobile App, download it today and take advantage of the many features it provides. Use it to check-in when you visit the JCC, view and sign up for daily group exercise schedule of classes, reserve a tennis court, or register for a program, all from your tablet or smartphone.
I hope you will continue to keep us informed about how we’re doing. Your feedback helps us to develop new programs and make adjustments to existing services to make them more effective and your membership more valuable. Use any of the following methods to tell us about your experiences at the J: call us, email us, speak with a staff member, or set up a time to come by and visit.
Enjoy looking through our 2018 Winter/Spring Program Guide (available to pick up at the JCC if you have not received one), and thank you for your ongoing support.
