Dr. Melissa Weininger specializes in the study of modern Hebrew and Yiddish literature, with an emphasis on gender, nationalism, and ideology. She is working on a project on the role of gender and nation in modern Jewish literature and culture. Melissa is looking forward to visiting the Barshop JCC to discuss the contemporary representations of women in the Israeli military and the challenge they present to dominant conceptions of Israeli national identity and Zionist ideals of masculinity.
Online ticket sales have ended; tickets are still available to purchase at the J.
Crunchy kosher dills. Hamantaschen filled with prune levkar. Date honey and pomegranate molasses. Foods like these demonstrate how preserving has played an important role in Jewish cuisine, both Ashkenazi and Sephardic, from Biblical times to today.
I was intrigued. I have seen it advertised for years. Ta’am Ha’Ona, the teaser for the Passover Seder created by our JCC advertises “food, fun, and no fuss.”
Ellen and Ira Hessel and their four daughters, Joanna, Melissa, Kathryn, and Sarah, have been members of the JCC since the early 1990s.
