Your Story: Meet the Wiemers Family

WiemersDean Wiemers, his wife Marcy, and their two children, Beau and Raelynn, are all regulars at the JCC. Since joining in 2015, everyone in the family has participated in numerous activities throughout the year. Dean and Marcy were interested in physical activities that allowed them to be more active. Swimming at the JCC’s heated lap pool, which is open year-round, has allowed the Wiemers to engage in calorie-burning, no-weight-bearing activity.

The family’s goals to provide an initiative for Beau and Raelynn to be enrolled in sports programs have been accomplished at the JCC. Beau and Raelynn have especially taken interest in the many Youth Leagues, such as the Soccer Academy, flag football, Spurs basketball, and Tee ball. They also both attend the JCC’s after school program during the school year, and participate in the American Camping Association-accredited J-Camp during their summer break. Dean would be thrilled if one day the children participated in the counselor-in-training (CIT) program or worked as a counselor to give back to the community. The Wiemers love the all-inclusive environment the JCC provides their children, where Beau & Raelynn can complete homework, enjoy a snack, spend time with friends, or be easily enrolled in youth leagues. Dean and Marcy also enjoy the easy transition from school to after school activities, when J staff pick-up and take the kids to and from programs.

Dean is a strong advocate for good sportsmanship. Even prior to joining the J, he was a volunteer coach for JCC Youth Leagues for four years. He has set the standard of how to work with young athletes, as well as fellow volunteers and JCC staff. At this year’s JCC Annual Meeting, Dean was awarded the Weldon C Place award for Achievements in Sports and Fitness.

Walking into the JCC, the first thing the Wiemers notice are the friendly faces of the staff, and the cheerful smiles of children Dean has coached. The Wiemers believe There’s Something About This Place® where a variety of activities allow the family to have a great time on the field, in after school care, or swimming in the pool.
