Your Story: Rhoda Rappaport
Rhoda Rappaport has been a member of the JCC for almost a decade. A friendly woman full of energy, she continues to fulfill the goals which she set years ago upon joining, to “not be stuck at home,” and to “make friends and socialize.” On a weekly basis, the JCC’s Senior Transportation Services drives Rhoda and up to two dozen of her friends to participate in activities, such as card games in the Senior Room, Senior Lunch, Fit 4 Life chair-based fitness class, free movies and popcorn at Silver Cinema, and more.
Monthly senior craft and social activities, as well as a variety of field trips are some highlights of Rhoda’s time at the J. Some of her favorite field trips have been going to the Wildseed Farm and Morgan’s Wonderland. Rhoda values the kosher Senior Lunches, served Monday through Thursday, because she “does not have to prepare the meals.” She especially enjoys the enchiladas with rice and other Mexican staple dishes that Irene’s Kosher Catering prepares.
Rhoda explains that her first feeling when walking into the J is that she is not alone. When here, she enjoys arts and crafts, and especially loves to joke around and laugh with her peers, JCC staff, and the children from ECD or J-Camp. Rhoda believes There’s Something About This Place® that makes her “glad to be alive!”
